Welcome Aboard the Fort Collins Municipal Railway!
We operate Fort Collins Birney Safety Car 21,
one of four cars purchased by the City in 1919. Birney cars provided daily
service until 1951. Afterwards, car 21 sat in a park for almost three decades.
We restored it, rebuilt the line on West Mountain Ave., and now operate the car
on weekend afternoons from May through September.
We are the Fort Collins Municipal Railway Society,
an all-volunteer organization working with the city of
Fort Collins, CO
to provide a heritage streetcar experience.
Free Rides in July!
Thanks to generous donations from the Wilkins Family Trust and the Downtown Business Administration, we'll be offering free rides on these afternoons in July:
- July 4 - Board at Howes St. for a ride to Shields St. & back between Noon and 6 PM.
- July 10 & 11 - Board anywhere we stop for free rides between Noon and 5 PM
(last car leaves Howes St. at 4:40 PM).
We also run charters for private parties and events.
For more, see Charter Car 21.
Car 25 is Back Home!
Thanks to many donations, hard work by Society members and City employees, and timely service from Sterling Crane, former Fort Collins Car 25 is now back in the carbarn on North Howes St. We are now planning to restore the 86-year-old streetcar to service on our restored line. For more details on the unloading, please see
