Sky Ranch Programs: High Wilderness Backpack Trips
The High Wilderness program is for students who have completed grades 9-12 or adult groups. The program is offered through most of the summer; see below descriptions. What activities do I get to do? There are three different kinds of High Wilderness Backpack Trips: Timberline Trail sets up camp for multiple nights in two or three high wilderness campsites and takes day hikes from those spots. Wilderness Journey backpacks to a different campsite every night and uses loop trails to return to Sky Ranch. Finally, Taste of the Mountains is a shorter, customized trek for those who can't spend a full week on trail. Timberline Trail: Timberline Trail trips allow you to establish a base camp near timberline in order to take day hikes to locations you may not reach with full gear. Enjoy camping near rock formations or in cool, wooded forests near timberline. Day routes can vary according to group ability but choices include scenic overlooks above timberline, hidden lakes filled with trout or places of interest such as Bomber Mountain. Group dynamics help you develop cooperative skills and close friendship. Group size is limited to 10 people. Large groups can schedule multiple trips each week of season. Offered weekly June 18 through August 11, 2006. Wilderness Journey: Surprise yourself with a backpack trek into the Comanche Peak Wilderness. Face the challenges of wilderness life in an inspirational setting. The Wilderness Journey will take you over high mountain passes, to the top of peaks and to hidden streams and lakes. The scenery is spectacular and your group will become close friends by the end of the trip. This is a trip into the high country that you'll never forget. Group size is limited to 10 people. Large groups can schedule multiple trips each week of the season. Offered weekly June 18 through August 11, 2006. Taste of the Mountains : If you only have a few days to enjoy Sky Ranch, let us organize an overnight camping trip for you in the mountains. This is a great way for families to introduce children to hiking. It also works great for youth groups on a budget or who are short on time. We can plan from two to four nights worth of camping and hiking. We have several day hikes to choose from, including Cirque Meadows, Comanche Lake, Golgatha, B-17 and Cathedral. All offer magnificent views and plenty of challenge. Call for available dates.
