Frequently Asked
Questions
Fort Collins Mothers' Centeris
a relaxed place, without formal orientations for new people. It is a
common occurrence for people to learn about Mothers' Center simply by
jumping right in, but we recognize that people often need some basic
questions answered.
What
is Mothers' Center?
Practically
speaking, Mothers' Center is a group of mothers who come together to learn, to
receive and give support to one another, and to provide activities for ourselves
and other parents. Each activity is selected because someone in the group is
interested in it and because we believe it will appeal to others.
How does Mothers' Center
support itself?
We
are a volunteer organization. Most of the operation funds for Mothers' Center
come from membership fees, fundraising, grants, and the fees that are charged
for some programs.
Tell me
about committees
Mothers'
Center is organized into committees that deal with various aspects of operation.
The
Steering
Committee, the
principal guiding force of Mothers' Center, is comprised of representatives
from each committee and any interested parties. Committees include Childcare,
Finance, Fundraising, Membership, Newsletter, Programming, and Public Relations.
Volunteers are always welcome in all of these groups.
Where do
Mothers' Center events take place?
Mothers'
Center uses the facilities of the Shepherd of the
Hills
Lutheran
Church
at
1200 South Taft Hill Road
; however, we are not affiliated
with any religious, educational, or social service organization. On occasion,
events are held in other locations. Playgroups often meet in homes or public
areas.
What
does it mean to host an event?
The
hostess or contact for each event coordinates the logistics of that event,
including registration, childcare sign-up, physical setup and cleanup of the
room, invitations to speakers, refreshments, and depending upon the type of
event, facilitation of the discussions. If you host an event, you either pay the
registration fee or childcare; the other is free to you. We appreciate
all the help we can get, and this is a great position for new members.
How can
I get involved in Mothers' Center?
You
can get involved with Mothers' Center in two ways. First, simply attend one or
more of the activities and events that interest you. This step will give you
a practical taste of who we really are. You may attend by calling the contact
person and registering for the program. Second, call any of the committee
contacts. The ensuing conversation will provide you with information and
hopefully a new friend.
Is it
okay for my child to attend events?
Children
are welcome at our events, with a few exceptions (such as adult evening events).
In fact, some of the events are specifically designed for parents and children
to attend together. Our childcare arrangements have been designed to help
children learn to be a part of a group of their peers with an adult other than
their parents. Specific childcare guidelines and costs are outlined on our
website.
Where is
Room 5 in Mothers' Center?
Head
to the east side of the church, off the parking lot. You will see that the
smaller entrance on that side has a sign designating it as the entrance to
Mothers' Center. Go through that entrance, find the third door on the right,
and you will be in the infamous Room 5.
